A thorough clean up of your computer, plus practical advice so it does not happen again. Home visits and remote help across Canterbury.
Malware does not always announce itself. People usually call me because something feels wrong. The computer is suddenly slow, the browser opens pages you did not ask for, pop ups appear that will not go away, or a new toolbar or search engine has taken over. Sometimes a warning message tells you to phone a number or pay to unlock your files. Do not call that number and do not pay. Turn off the computer or disconnect it from the internet, then get in touch.
I diagnose the actual cause instead of just reinstalling everything. A full reinstall is sometimes the right answer, but it is a last resort, not the first step. A typical clean up covers:
I work across Windows, macOS and Linux, so the same careful approach applies whatever you run.
Removing the malware is only half the job. I explain clearly, with no jargon, how it most likely got in and what to watch for next time. That might be a fake download button, a dodgy email attachment, or an old password used on too many sites. If a password may have been exposed, I help you change it and set up your email and cloud accounts so you can recover them if something goes wrong.
I also help after a scam. That might be a phone call from someone who said they were from Microsoft or your bank, a pop-up that took over the screen, or an email account that started to send messages you did not write. I check the computer for anything the scammer left behind, help you change your passwords, and secure your email so you can get back in if it happens again. If you gave out card or bank details, call your bank first, then get in touch.
I offer home visits by appointment and remote help across Canterbury. If the computer is badly infected or will not get online, a visit is usually the better option. If it still works well enough to connect, remote help can be quicker. Not sure which you need? Send a message or use the chat, describe what you are seeing, and I will tell you honestly what I think.
A real person handles your issue from start to finish, not a call centre. I also offer extra time and clear step by step help for older users, with no rushing.
